13000
BC - 829 AD | The
Old Ages |
| | The
old ages are not affected by vampiric influences much. Up to the year 400 BC only
a few cainites are present in Scandinavia, most of them Gangrels or Malkavians.
In Finland a cult thrives around the Malkavian Lerterimas who among others sire
Louhi. |
|
13000
BC - 5000 BC | The
Ice When the ice had drawn back from southern Scandinavia (approx. 13.000
BC) the land was a barren plain. It took four thousand years before the ice had
drawn back all the way to Norrland. No humans - no vampires... |
| 7000
BC - 1800 BC | The
Invasions The earliest nomads appeared in the area 7000 BC from the south.
Farming started approximately 3000 BC. Around 2000 BC a series of invasions from
the south take place, mainly from Jylland. Warring tribes settle in the area.
These tribes brought the horse, the axe, and the worship of Thor - god of thunder.
The natives are slaughtered or enslaved under the new harsh masters, which turn
into chieftains of farmers around 1800 BC. The warring people whom arrive are
kinfolk to Children of Fenris and shapechangers follow them. The few vampires
of clan Gangrel whom have moved in the outskirts of these people, become the first
kindred in Scandinavia. |
| 1500
BC | The
Bronze Age 1500 BC marks the beginning of the Bronze Age. The influence
of the Mediterranean high-cultures grows during this period in time. The worship
of the sun god become more popular as the weather becomes more cold and rainy.
For several hundred years serious changes in the climate affected the area: the
land became cloudier, rainier and the harvests often failed. |
| 500
BC | The
Iron Age and the Romans Approximately 500 BC a large-scale emigration
from Scandinavia begins, heading south due to the poor climate and failed harvests.
Most of the population stayed and struggled on, but the emigration was still noticeable.
During the next centuries, the Romans realize that there are Germanic barbarians
not only north of the "Herkynian Forest" in the middle of Germany, but also north
of the "Sverbian Sea" in the north. Already before 100 AD, the roman scribe Tacitus
speak of a people way up in the north, in the very ocean. They were called "sviones"
whom allegedly populated an island kingdom and were feared due to their fleets
and weapons. |
| 200
- 400 | Odin
in Europe At this time a Gangrel by the name "All High" or Odin travels
together with the Germanic tribes, and will be a thorn in the Roman empires side
for years to come. Between 200 and 300 AD he resides in central Europe, and repeatedly
gets into conflict with the Ventrue and the Malkavians of Rome. His goal is rumored
to be the destruction of the aspiring civilizations. |

Odin meets Germanicus
At the end of the 5th century Odin meets Germanicus. It was hate at first
sight. Germanicus is said to have converted a large number of the Germanic tribes
against their master, and with the aid of the newly proclaimed state-religion
Christianity the "All High's" grip over the Germanic tribes was finally ended. |
| 400
- 575 | The
Line of the Young At the end of the 5th century a lot of the old farming
community on the islands in the Baltic Sea is lost. Days of worry and the large
emigration created big problems. During this period the "uppsvenska sveafolket"
appears before all the tribes and nations in the area. They successively gain
mastery over the entire middle of Sweden, and later the westgoths, the eastgoths,
and thus the Swedish people were born. The Silverfangs enter Scandinavia and
take the power from the Children of Fenris. The last stand, at Uppsala, fell approximately
400 AD and "The Line of the Young" - a branch of the Silverfangs - placed their
religious and tribal home on this spot to remind the defeated of who their masters
were. |
| 500 |
Odin's war against the
shapechangers About the year 500 the Gangrel methuselah the "All High"
or Odin arrives to the Scandinavian Peninsula together with his progeny. This
methuselah saw the unconquered people as an asset, an army to be used against
his enemy. During the following two centuries Odin caused the shapechanger tribes
to fight amongst themselves. Finally the Line of the Young collapsed and during
this period the power of the garou in Sweden was diminished, only to collapse
when Ingjald Illråde abolished the vassal-system. The minor kings whom often
consisted of kinfolk to the Children of Fenris started a rebellion in which the
last remnants of the Line of the Young were crushed. At the same time the cairn
in old Uppsala ceased to exist, something the garou attributed to Odin. The scattered
garou-state fought a series of bloody battles for the position as rulers. These
conflicts were cunningly orchestrated by Odin in order to weaken the garou. Several
shapechangers were said to follow his command. |
| 620 |
Ulf Wulfenkinder About
620 AD Varg (Wolf) is created, then called Ulf Wulfenkinder. He later moved to
Sweden in the 7th century and traveled to the middle of the land, around the city
of Örebro. There he was given a new name "Varg" by the local population. |

Odin conquers Uppsala
When Odin had consolidated his power during the 8th century, he had conquered
Old Uppsala, which came to function as his center of power all the way to the
11th century. |
| 793
- 1050 | The
Age of Vikings The Age of the Vikings is said to begin the year 793, as
this was the year when the cloister of Lindisfarne in the north of England was
raided. The Swedes participated in the journeys west but mainly traveled eastward.
In the beginning of the 9th century the legendary Ruser chieftains Rurik, Sineus
and Truvor journeys over the Baltic Sea where they lay the foundations to a great
wealth, controlling important Russian travel routes. On the other side of the
ocean Rurik is embraced, and in rapid succession merchant cities and castles are
built in Novgorod, Bjelosersk and Kiev. After Ruriks staged death, Oleg ruled
in place for Igor son of Rurik, and fused Kiev into the mighty Gårdarike or "Svithiod
the great". |

The Irish abbey Iona is plundered by vikings. |
| 800
- 1000 | Odin's
revenge The remaining Silverfangs realized that their future had been
swept away. In the east there still remains possibilities to create kingdoms.
This became Novgorod and Kiev. The remaining garou was either expelled from Scandinavia
or enslaved by Odin's progeny. The kinfolk of the garou stepped into line behind
Odin. His vengeance against the mainland and against clan Ventrue was the viking
raids in the east. Ghouled, dominated or religiously convinced - the vikings struck
hard against the civilized world, a world which was seen as a threat and an enemy.
Apart from the British islands, the vikings also attack the coastal areas around
northern Europe as well as daring raids on the city of Paris. |

|
829
- 900 | The
Missionary Ages |
| |
It wasn't
until the 11th century the Christian mission in Sweden became really important.
Far earlier the Swedes had been in tough with Christianity though, mainly through
the monk Ansgar - the apostle of the North. |
| |
The first documented
attempt to establish Christendom in Scandinavia was a cooperation between three
clans: Ventrue, Toreador and Nosferatu. The Ventrue with its control over the
emerging civilization was hit hardest by the viking raids. Apart from the British
isles several other places were attacked: the Hansa with its headquarters in Lübeck
under the antoin Albertus and his children, the city of Hamburg under the Ventrue
prince Altenburg and Hardestadts progeny, the prince of Bremen. Together with
the princes of other cities they formed the Northgerman union. This was a coalition
of mainly Ventrue princes in an attempt to coordinate, defend and retaliate against
the revenge of Odin - the vikings. One of their projects was the Christian mission
in Scandinavia. One of their most rusted ghouls - Ansgar - got the assignment.
At first the mission went along nicely, but when the news finally reached Odin
the result was quick and hard - an attack on Hamburg. The city was razed and burned
to the ground in response to the attempt to christianize Birka. The church in
Birka was also burned. |
| 829 | Ansgar's
mission Autumn 829 a messenger from king Björn of Birka arrived at emperor
Ludvig the Righteous, from which they asked for Christian missionaries for their
homeland. The emperor send the monk Ansgar and a fellow brother. They arrived
on the island of Björkö the year 830. In Birka Ansgar formed a small group
of followers, one of which was the royal tax collector Hergeir himself. On his
farm the first church in Sweden was built. Two winters later Ansgar returned home
and was appointed archbishop of Hamburg with the entire Scandinavia as a missionary
area. A new monk, Gauzbert was the leader in Birka, but one of the reoccurring
sacrificial heathen ceremonies every ninth year, obliterated the church and Gauzbert
was forced to leave. At the same time Björn was embraced by Odin in order to get
better control over the city. |

Ventrue's offer A
hastily gathered alliance of Ventrues try to undermine the vikings by assimilating
them. Vikings are offered power and responsibility on condition that they defend
and uphold the order. |
| | |
| 900
- 1070 | The
Victory of Christianity |
| | When
the first attempt to convert Scandinavia failed, the strategy changed. The following
century Christianity was spread to the vikings who traded with the west or settled
there. A number of important leaders were embraced or ghouled. One struck at the
very heart of Odin - the Swedes and Uppsala. Since both the Nosferatu and the
Toreador had strong connections the church and the missionaries, their desire
to convert the pagan vikings converged with the Ventrue princes desire to crush
Odin. |
| |
The
present king of Sweden - Olof Skötkonung was a ghoul to Odin. His first more prominent
political action was to form an alliance with Sven Tveskägg of Denmark and Erik
Jarl of Norway, against Olav Tryggvason of Norway. What Skötkonung did not
know was that the Northern German coalition agent - Caius Germanicus - had succeeded
in taking control over both Tveskägg and Jarl. Both these warrior kings served
Germanicus via the bloodbond since they were ghouls. Olof Skötkonung resisted
the temptations that Germanicus offered. So did Olav Tryggvarson, the king of
Norway, who was under the influence of Odin. The Toreador and Nosferatu had succeeded
in bringing Christianity to Denmark, with the aid of Eudoxia of Estergorm and
Oliver Stavross whom had been expelled from Constantinople. Their plan was to
"convince" Skötkonung of the message of Christianity and to allow himself to be
baptized. After that they could strike against Odin via religion. This came to
be. How they managed to break Odin's control over his ghoul is still a matter
of discussion. Now only Olof Tryggvason was loyal to Odin, and with a numerically
superior opponent the outcome was certain. But despite their advantage Eudoxia
and Stavross could not use their position. Albeit their religion was spread, but
the success was only secured in southern Sweden. The northern parts still refused
to be converted. |
| 900 | Birka
is abandoned The city degrades and after the battle of the Fyrisvallarna
in the 10th century, the city is abandoned. In its place the city of Sigtuna is
built around the year 1000, as a center for Christianity in Scandinavia. |
| 1000 | The
Battle of Öresund In the battle of Öresund the coalition defeated the
royal Norwegian fleet. The king of Sweden's share of the loot was the county Bohuslän
and a good part of the rich Trondheim area. |
| 1008 | Olof
Skötkonung is baptized Olof finally was baptized together with his family
and court in Husaby, by the missionary Sigfrid in the Brigida spring. |
| 1021 | Olof
Skötkonung is embraced In a last attempt to regain the control over Skötkonung,
Björn is ordered to embrace the king in Husaby. His death is staged in 1022 and
the regency is handed over to the king's son Anund Jakob, who is also Odin's ghoul
. |
| 1060 | The
old royal line dies out As Olof's sons Anund Jakob, Edmund the old, and
Sigurd Slemme died about 1060, the old royal line died with them. The circumstances
about their death are unknown. |
| 1060
- 1066 | Stenkil's
regency The new king became the Christian Jarl Stenkil. He was especially
tight bound to Västergötland. After his death in 1066 a time of confusion and
internal struggles began. Odin's power was now limited to Svealand and Norway.
Denmark and southern Sweden were at this time pacified by the alliance between
Ventrue, Toreador and Nosferatu. |
| 1070 | Christianity
comes to Uppsala During a ten-year period a war is fought in the dark.
The Christians use Sigtuna as a base against the heathen Uppsala. Using St Gertrud
as a haven, Stavros and Eudoxia lead the spiritual attack on Uppsala. An attempt
to put Inge Stenkilsson on the throne of Sweden fails when clan Malkav under Blot-Sven
ally themselves with Odin. Together their forces defeat the troops of Inge and
his Ventrue alliance. Skötkonungs new ties to Odin proves to be too thin, and
in the middle of the battle he turns against Odin's forces. Skötkonung manages
to slay several of Odin's kindred before he is overwhelmed and neutralised. He
faces the new sun and dies. Inge however, manages to escape during the attack
on Skötkonung. When he returns he has a ten times as strong army, which attacks
during the day and burns down the heathen temples in Uppsala. Odin disappears
during this attack, and his many progeny stands without spiritual and tactical
guidance. In the chaos that follows the heathen vampires are slain of chased off,
demoralised by the disappearance of their god. The fight still rages on, mainly
by the Valkyrie, Odin's progeny, but their effort no longer has the support of
the mortal masses. Eudoxia and Stavros build a church on the spot where the former
temple was, and within a year the majority of Uppsala in converted. |
| | |
| 1070
- 1500 | The
Struggle for Power |
| | During
this period is becomes clear that clan Ventrue moves into Sweden. The so-called
"Gang of Four", the idealists of clan Brujah including Johannes Creutz seeks to
establish a base in Scandinavia. The Toreador and Nosferatu consolidates the grip
on Uppsala via Eudoxia and Stavros. They also take control over King Inge and
later his son Sverker. Not until Sverker takes the throne does Caius Germanicus
become aware that his allies have deceived him. Caius Germanicus and Olof Birgersson
(progeny of Elof the Slayer) engage in a conflict, which is mirrored in the war
of the throne by the lines of Erik and Sverker. The first conflicts between Germanicus
and the north German Ventrue princes can also be seen. |

founding of the Camarilla and the Masquerade. |
| | |
| 1500
- 1850 | The
Sabbat Wars |
| | The
kindred in Sweden quickly embraced the Camarilla, since it suited the traditional
and conservative rulership well. The Sabbat seeking refuge in the north headed
into more resistance than expected when they sought a haven in Scandinavia. |
| 1500
- 1600 | The
Sabbat escape to Scandinavia Even though the anarch revolt didn't happen
so much in Scandinavia, it wasn't hard to recognise the Sabbat when they escaped
here during the 16th and 17th century. Only the neonates were persistent enough
to start fighting with the Camarilla in Sweden. The packs that caused trouble
were soon hunted down and killed by the Camarilla. The rest of the Sabbat did
not resist this but instead helped with the extermination of the troublemaking
packs. |
| 1528 |

Thules Herdar are formed
1686 the pack Thules Herdar (Shepherds of Thule) are formed at an abbey
outside of Uppsala. Though supported from two nomad packs in the area they never
made an attack on Uppsala. A mystery even today when the Camarilla there only
consisted of 7 vampires. Instead there was a new peace treaty only for Uppsala.
The result of this is that the kindred of Uppsala place themselves outside the
war. |
| 1702 | The
fire of Uppsala In 1702 Uppsala are in flames and the fire destroys almost
the whole city, and even the cathedral is damaged. Both the towers burn down and

its roof Rudbeck the younger directs the effort to put out the fire. |

Industrial Age |
| | In
the middle of the 19th century the city started to be industrialised and the population
increased drastically. This led to problems, when Olof's servant Kristian controlled
the new matchstick factory and the ghoul Ivar Krüger. Kristian got into
a financial war with the Ventrue, consisting of the primogen and media-mogul Lorentz
Reinhold Brahe, who controlled the New Jönköpingsbladet, and his sire Per
Brahe who recently had awaked from his torpor. The struggle led to a showdown
abroad where Per once again was sent to torpor and Krüger was killed. |
| 1887 | Sabbaten
drivs till Amerika The Sabbat are expelled to America An alliance with
the Baltic princedoms and the Swedish Camarilla succeeded in driving the Sabbat
away. Rurik and his army killed about 2000 Sabbat members. The same year
45000 people and 5000 vampires emigrate to America, mostly Sabbat. In total there
was 1.3 million people that emigrated between 1840 - 1930. |
| 1917 | Peace

had been prince over St. Peterburg, fought for power and the throne. |
| 1920 | Establishment
boom in Jönköping During the late 19th century more vampires moved into
Jönköping and Huskvarna, and in 1920 a drastic increase in settlements happened.
It led to some new clans being introduced to Jönköping. Prince Olof did not object
to the new ones as long as they followed his rules, but the new vampires slowly
grew tired of his old laws and endless bureaucracy as the years went by. |

a Justicar was contacted. |
| 1994 | War
Tribunal in Visby The Justicar and the refugees from the revolt in Visby
travelled together to Gotland to hold what would become one of the histories most
well-known war tribunals. None of the revolutionaries survived. A time of negotiations
and power play followed. Gotland was declared forbidden area for kindred. The
Russian Mafia, controlled by Lupines saw a possibility to take control over Visby
and its surroundings. Not until one year later the borders to the island was opened
again. |
| 1998 | The Founding of the Council at Katrineholm
